From McMaster to Colorado.
Joel Gamble started preparing for the MMI while still a third-year Health Sciences student at McMaster University. His brother Nathan had trained with MMI Made Easy before him, and their father, Dr. Kenneth Gamble, asked Dr. Omar Benidir to coach Joel one on one.
The timing was unusual. During the preparation period Omar was travelling through the Gulf region for a convention he had committed to earlier. The sessions continued by video, and the objective did not change: prepare Joel for the unpredictable nature of the MMI, not for a list of familiar questions.
Joel was accepted to the University of Toronto's medical program while still in his third year. He went on to earn his MD, completed a residency in diagnostic radiology, and moved to Colorado for subspecialty training.
Today he is an instructor and fellow in radiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine in Aurora, training in musculoskeletal imaging. His academic work covers medical imaging, artificial intelligence in radiology, patient-centred care, medical ethics and the history of medicine, and includes an ARRS Certificate of Merit in the artificial intelligence category. He also holds a Master of Studies in theology, with a focus on science and religion.
